MePA joined the Maine Medical Association and 17 other professional associations in signing a letter that reaffirms our Associations’ commitment to ensuring that all Maine patients—regardless of immigration status—have access to safe, timely, high-quality care, and to provide guidance in light of increased immigration enforcement activity in our communities. The guidance aims to reduce fear and disruption by clarifying what federal authorities can and cannot do in healthcare settings, outlining steps organizations can take to prepare and respond appropriately, reinforcing the continued obligation to protect patient privacy, and encouraging calm, compassionate care for patients and colleagues. Through this guidance, we seek to support healthcare professionals in upholding patient rights, maintaining access to essential services, and living out the core principle of “Do No Harm.”
